The Renner Hawkeye Equation

  • by

All the sites I visit kept saying that Jeremy Renner (he of Hurt Locker) is in final negotiations to play Clint Barton AKA Hawkeye (or, for a time, Ronin). I had been holding off on this because these rumours seem to fly in then dissipate. Now that the Hollywood Reporter is actually reporting on it, I feel a bit safer mentioning it.

Though I’m still not going to talk about Nathan Fillion (if you don’t know who he is, you can leave now) or Josh Holloway (Lost, which I stopped following after season 2 . . . thankfully) as Hank Pym.

If Marvel can get Renner on board for Hawkeye, that would be awesome. As crazy as a purple suit is, I like the Hawkeye character. I actually prefer the Ultimate Hawkeye, and since they seem to have gone that way for Nick Fury and possibly Captain America, there’s hope for an Ultimate Hawkeye in the Avengers.

Okay, I lied about not talking about the Pym dilemma. I am weak.

Were I given the choice between Fillion and Holloway for Hank Pym AKA Ant-Man, I’d like to know if they were going to present Pym the Wife-Beater of Pym the Scientist Supreme, because if the former, go with Holloway and if the latter, go with Fillion. I figure that unless Pym is going to go the way of the Ultimate Pym (as in, basically a villain), the movie will ignore the wife-beating angle. Do that, and get Fillion on board.

It’s not that I don’t think Fillion could do Wife-beating Pym justice, I would just rather he play a cool character, one I don’t have to hate. And, yes, I do have to hate Pym, even if it was “only once.” Ultimate Pym is totally another matter, and is a complete bastard . . . not in a good sense.

In any case, to boil this all down into something easily digestible, Renner + Hawkeye = Good. Renner + Ultimate Hawkeye = Awesome! Fillion + Pym – Wife-Beating = Sweet!
