Whedon Assemble!
April 13, 2010
I dig Iron Man, I’m waiting patiently for Iron Man 2 and Thor, and I am at least happy with Chris Evans as Captain America.
What if Joss Whedon directs the Avengers?
I honestly don’t know.
I would say I am a fan of some of Joss Whedon’s work, if not of the man himself. I have never watched Buffy, Angel or Dollhouse, so my only connection to Mr. Whedon is Firefly, Serenity, and Dr. Horrible.
Love all of those.
And the dude has done comics. He restarted the Astonishing X-Men.
But can he direct the Avengers?
See, I have little faith in Joe Johnston directing Captain America. Might be good, might not. Most of his stuff after the Rocketeer has been meh. The failure of Cap’s movie, however tragic, would not doom Marvel’s Avenger project. Two suckages in a row, or even two less than Iron Man’s in a row, could mess it up totally.
Now I loved Serenity as a movie, but there was very little being done there that would have been out of place on TV. That was his first foray, though. And the look of the film will certainly not rest with him alone.
Really, I don’t know. I think it’s good only in that it stops other choices which have a greater chance of suckage.
I’ll wait until I see IR2, Thor, and Cap before I start getting all worked up about the Avengers, no matter who’s directing it.
