For some reason, this article, slated for April 22, never got published. Sorry for the late–as they say, better than never.
Collider delivers yet again with a great interview with Karl Urban. I’m a bit late, but go check it out. There’s nothing particularly revealing about the actor himself, other than exhibiting humility and a bit of insight as to how he builds a character.
I’ve liked Urban since he played my absolute favourite character from the Lord of the Rings novels, Eomer. His role in the movie kind of got hosed, but that was not Urban’s fault. I think he truly did justice to what he was given. I just wish we had have seen more of him.
I think I’m one of the few people who really enjoyed the Chronicles of Riddick, and the amazing acting talent brought together for that is part of it. I mean, not just Urban and Diesel, but Colm Feore, Dame Judi Densch, and Thandie Newton.
Mmmm, Thandie Newton.
Ahem. It’s sad when someone with Urban’s talents is relegated to dross like Pathfinder. I really hope he gets noticed and starts getting more high profile work.
Not that Star Trek is not high profile . . .

Did you enjoy Star Trek? Are you looking forward to the sequel? Can you wait until June 29, 2012?
I would answer absolutely, definitely and if I really have to.
Box Office Mojo is indicating that the Star Trek sequel will be released June 29, 2012. That’s a damn long wait for most of us. Star Trek was one of the very, very few movies I actually saw in the theatre. I have to say, I was suitably impressed. This movie really re-energized the franchise. It wasn’t Star Trek as I remember it from the many reruns, it wasn’t the many ST movies with the original crew, it certainly wasn’t any of the reincarnations, from Next Generation to Enterprise. No, this was something different.
This was action-adventure Star Trek. It didn’t have the thoughts and themes that made old ST so popular. It did have great characters—all of the main ones, riffs on characters that have come before—and great action sequences. I was sad they couldn’t do more with Eric Bana, a really talented actor, and the science was the usual wonky ST technobabble, but on the whole, the movie was a win.
Let’s hope ST2 is able to follow suit. I don’t care if they continue the action-adventure style or go back to thoughtful ruminations on big ideas, just give me another ST and make it good.

High Hopes from the studio, that is. Collider is reporting that Paramount is already lining up writers for a sequel to the Star Trek movie, which isn’t even out yet. I mean, I can understand that they must expect the movie will do bucketloads of money, but will it get into shitloads territory? Bets are yes, but one never knows. And as the article points out, it’s up against some serious contenders.
I hope it all turns out well. After driving the Star Trek franchise into the ground, let’s hope Paramount doesn’t bury it.

So, we have a look at the Enterprise in J. J. Abram’s run at Star Trek.

Since this is supposed to come before the Enterprise from TOS, it looks a little too good. But I had the same issue with the ship from ST:E.
Whatever. They will never please everyone, and it looks cool–different while retaining the iconic design.
As with everything else I’ve seen and heard, colour me interested.
