It’s not Chris Evans, and apparently its not even the actual suit, but there are pics from the set of Captain America that show a stunt double in the “stunt suit” riding Cap’s hefty WWII hog, along with some sweet Hyrda vehicles.
Head on over to Collider to see the photos, here.

I remember Neal McDonough as Lt. Hawk from First Contact. Not the meatiest of roles, but hey, he was in Trek. Then I saw him in Band of Brothers. As with all the performances in that mini-series, outstanding! So I’m always excited when I see his name attached to a movie (or the names of Damian Lewis and Ron Livingstone).

Now I’ve said before that I am a little bit anxious with Joe Johnstone taking on Captain America, but having Neal McDonough attached as “Dum Dum” Dugan turns my interest up to at least simmer (from lukewarm). The thing is, if Neal McDonough is playing Dum Dum, this is not the Dum Dum I remember from Sgt. Fury’s Howlin’ Commandos. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.
I do wonder if this means they are divorcing Dum Dum from Nick Fury, which would kind of be sad, or if Dugan is only in the present. I can’t see them using Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in WWII.

Captain America casting news is moving along nicely. The villains have now been officially cast, and I think the acting talent that’s being assembled is pretty sweet. My question continues to be: can Joe Johnston take advantage of it?
Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith and Elrond) will be the Red Skull while Toby Jones will play Arnim Zola. While Weaving is known to geeks worldwide, Jones might not be so recognizable. His CV does include playing Dobby the House Elf in the Harry Potter movies.
In any case, both actors have got the stuff, and have proven they can deliver

And in the role of Captain America’s hot girlfriend, Hayley Atwell.
I’ll wait while most of you try to figure out who the heck that might be. Google image search is your friend.
There’s other casting news, all on Collider as linked above. The truth is, other than Chris Evans, I just can’t get excited over the casting news.
Until Hugo Weaving is confirmed. That will be kick-ass. Oh, wait, that’s another movie. Nevermind.
In any case, while I think the recent run of Captain America has been generally great, and I like Chris Evans for the role, I don’t have a lot of faith that this is going to be a movie on par with Iron Man or—fingers crossed—Thor.
Joe Johnston, prove me wrong.

Well, after he gets frozen in ice, he can always thaw himself out.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Captain America will be Chris Evans.
Man, comics love this guy . . . or at least those who adapt comics for the screen love this guy. Fantastic Four, the Losers, now Captain America.
Well played, Mr. Evans. Well played indeed.
I’ve read some articles disparaging the choice of Chris Evans for the role of Steve Rogers. I have to disagree. Honestly no matter who they cast, there are going to be people who won’t be happy. Is it just me, or do you all remember some fans questioning the choice of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark.
Seems stupid now, eh?
Not that I’m saying Chris Evans has RDJr’s chops, I’m just saying let’s wait and see what comes of this. The man’s done pretty good with the roles he’s been given.

I ask you, can we trust the Hollywood Reporter?
If the answer is yes, then we can go to bed tonight knowing that Chris Evans has been offered the role of Captain America.
And that suits me fine.
Of all the “big” Marvel movies—Thor, Iron Man 2, Captain America—I’m afraid Cap is the one I’d be willing to sacrifice. Captain American can be an awesome character, as Ed Brubaker has amply demonstrated, but he’s like Superman—he can be bland without the right handling.
While I would have plenty of faith in Chris Evans as Cap, I don’t have a lot of faith in Joe Johnston to give us something memorable. Other than the Rocketeer, I can’t say I’m a fan of anything he’s directed.
I really wouldn’t mind, though, if Johnston surprised me.
Oh, and did I mention that Hugo Weaving is playing the Red Skull? I didn’t? My bad.
Hugo Weaving is playing the Red Skull. Please don’t make him Italian.
So the cast is looking tight. Let’s hope the director can pull this off.

In Captain America casting rumours, all those rumours you heard before? Yeah, those were just rumours. Ignore them. The new rumours? Total. Absolute. Truth. Trust us, these rumours are the real rumours, not like those other rumours, which were just, like, rumours.
Um, yeah.
In any case, one of the names in the running is Chris Evans. I was certainly not impressed with the Fantastic Four movie, nor its sequel, but I have to say that Chris Evans was not part of the problem. I think he did a great job with Johnny Storm. I totally believed his character in Sunshine, and it looks like he’s done a great job portraying Jensen from the Losers. Of the three names I’ve seen (which include Chris Evans, Mike Vogel, and Garrett Hedlund), my vote’s for Evans. That’s only because I have no idea about the other two.
My thinking is that if Evans can do Johnny Storm, Mace (from Sunshine) and Jensen, then he could probably pull off Steve Rogers. Looking at IMDB, which I often do, he’s got a lot of other stuff in there that I can’t comment on because I haven’t seen it.
I wouldn’t call myself a Chris Evans fanboy, but he seems to do a solid job in everything in which i have seen him, so I have some trust in the man.
I can’t say as much for Joe Johnston. Sure he did a great job with the Rocketeer, but nothing since then has particularly impressed. Considering the total bases loaded home run Jon Favreau hit with Iron Man, and the track record of Kenneth Branagh before getting Thor, I really have to question what Johnson is doing helming Captain America.
Then again, of the three, it’s the one in which I am least interested. So, if one of the Marvel movies has to suck, feel free to throw Cap in front of the bus.
